Great Dane Women Do The Double

GREAT Dane secured the Women’s EHA Cup after a thrilling 28-26 victory over arch-rivals Ruislip Eagles at the Brentwood Centre in Essex on Saturday.

The lead changed hands several times in the match, but Great Dane - who were without top-scorer Anne Kandler through injury - still managed to secure the win.

It was Great Dane’s fourth win in five games against Ruislip this season, with the other result being a draw, and caps a great double.

“It was a really close game,” said Kandler afterwards, as she sat on the sidelines with a cast on her arm due to ligament damage sustained in a tournament in Portugal the previous weekend.

“The game was only decided in the last few minutes, and to be honest it could’ve gone either way.”

Iris Manu top-scored for Great Dane with nine goals, while Dani Sposi was Ruislip’s best with an impressive 13 goals.

Leading 16-14 at half time, Ruislip found themselves behind as the clock ticked down, and pushed hard to stay in touch. But Great Dane keeper Ida Griffiths made some crucial saves to ensure victory for her side.
